Welcome!

During the weekend of September 21st of this year I will be representing Old Bridge in a spectacular event and I’d like to take a moment to tell you about it.

I will be participating in the Avon 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk. Over 3,000 people have made the commitment to walk 60 miles (from Bear Mountain to NYC) in 3 days to raise awareness of breast cancer and to raise funds for research and to provide medical care for women who have little or no health insurance. According to the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute, Every three minutes a woman will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and every 14 minutes one will die from it. Early detection offers the best opportunity for successful treatment of breast cancer.

Last year I participated in this same event, in honor of my mother who lost her battle with breast cancer. My mother died just a few days after my sister gave birth to her first daughter. My mother was too ill to see or hold her grand child. This is the reason that I walk. This situation was probably preventable. If my mother had adequate health care, early detection might have spared her life and one child would have know the magic of having a loving grand mother.

I turned my grief, rage and fear in to a driving force that helped me finish this grueling event. I know that my efforts and the money that I raised have helped to save lives. I am only one person and my efforts may seem small in the grand scheme of things. But our efforts combined have been amazing. Last year, the 3,000 walkers raised over 10 million dollars. This year, I know we can do even better. I am asking every one that I can think of to help in this. I am asking you to make as generous a donation as you can to help us fight this disease.
